Local Bookshops

24-26 High St, Birmingham B4 7SL, UK – 0121 633 4353

Waterstones remains after the departure of some other bookshops and does a good job. I give five stars just for their endurance. Maybe the range of books is more limited these days? Not surprising as so many readers buy on Amazon and read on Kindle. We are lucky to still have at least one big bookshop. Ì miss the old second-hand shops, though.

It was lovely airy and clean. Good selection of reading material. Lack of staff upstairs was a let down. The gentleman who served us was polite and helpful x

2A Grand Central, Birmingham B2 4BF, UK – 020 3206 2690

Located above the train station it's a wonderfully stocked bookstore with a eclectic mix of fiction and non fiction, great little section for children and young teens who if like mine devour books quicker than their dinner. If you're after a graphic novel they have a decent selection of fan favourites and some more sought after titles too. Overall the experience when dealing with the staff who are extremely good, knowledgeable, articulate, pleasant and willing to help, make this a gem of a bookstore.

Friendly bookshop with a carefully curated collection. However the pop intellectualism it promotes may not appeal to serious book people or academics. Also the location could be improved. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Ikon Bookshop

1 Oozells St, Birmingham B1 2HS, UK – 0121 248 0711

Great selection of art books from multiple disciplines and gifts and novelties, good for students, hobbyists, professionals and the average Joe alike.

Ikon is very selective about their book offerings - everything in here is worth buying. I'm sure I'd purchase more if the prices were a little lower, but the products are of good quality and not extremely overpriced.
