Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Edgbaston

Chung Ying

16-18 Wrottesley St, Birmingham China Town, Birmingham B5 4RT, UK – 0121 622 5669

The place to go for very good Dim Sums. However if you are in a wheelchair this place is not really accessible yes they do have a metal ramp to put over the small flight of stairs inside the entrance but this creates a steep incline. They do not have a ramp for the front step which causes a issue of accessing the building especially when going for a meal as a group of friends in wheelchairs. Once inside the restaurant there is a wide open area perfect for a group of friends, family members or just going out for as a couple. It’s a great place to be with a great atmosphere. On a positive side they do have a disabled toilet but the layout and design of how the door opens to access the toilet causes anyone in a wheelchair to get stuck in the narrow corridor between the door and the wall. You will also need your Radar key to access this toilet. Using the ramp to exit the restaurant is very steep and dangerous as their is no staff around to help. Just be aware because you pick up speed as you come down the metal ramp then fly over the small step at the bottom and out onto a busy road. Not the greatest exit and entrance for a modern restaurant.

Food is always nice here. Is a dead basic restaurant though and if you are past 9 they always tell you it's all going to come out at once cause the chef is going home but then bring it dish by dish?! Service is authentic but they also give you cutlery regardless of asking if you can actually use chopsticks. Cost about £25 a head with a few of drinks and set menu

The Atrium and Brasserie Restaurant

University College Birmingham, Summer Row, Birmingham B3 1JB, UK – 0121 604 1010

I have been to the Atrium twice and really loved it. It's a really lovely space, relaxing and professional. The food is lovely and a good choice (for someone who doesn't eat pork it was great to see options without it ~ some other places tend to have this too much ~ even in the vegetables and with fish dishes). It was nice for a complementary drink before the meal. The menus were fun in lighting up 😊 The prices are so reasonable for the quality of food and service you get. The students and teachers are really great very welcoming but not in your face. The toilets were clean. I would really recommend.

Loved the food snd the service

Chung Ying Central Bar & Restaurant

126 Colmore Row, Birmingham B3 3AP, UK – 0121 400 0888

I went in on a Saturday afternoon by accident. Only wanting a cold beer because of the hot weather. I was warmly welcomed by the staff and seated by the bar I ordered a pint of ice cold Tiger Beer and had a good look around to find a very nice cost little restaurant who do Thai food and cocktails/beers the statue of a terracotta soldier in the doorway and a happy smiling Buddha made it a lovely place to chill and drink a nice cold beer. Definitely coming back to try the food and the superb selection of cocktails

Food was excellent, and service was prompt. Not sure I like the tables with the high chairs. Noise level was ok. Slightly more modern environment than the Chung Ying in China town. Excellent when visited at the same time as the Old Joint Stock pub.
